Alison Carmichael was commissioned to hand-letter the headlines for the latest “Best of Both” Hovis Bread print campaign, which uses type and photography to explore both the naughty and the nice sides within every child. Agency JWT briefed Alison to create the headline in two styles - to convey both the horribly dirty and sweetly angelic charms within a single line. To achieve these two diverse themes in a typographic style, she used a matted old brush with Quink ink to achieve a suitably messy finish for ‘now tastes’ and a marker pen for the neater, more finessed ‘even better’ typography on the right hand side.
